In December of 1997, the Imperial Palace Hotel and Casino opened on the Gulf Coast in Biloxi, Mississippi. The 30-story building included 1,280 units of Winco 1150 Series Windows. Special consideration was given to the top floors of this high-rise to withstand high wind loads in this hurricane prone region.

Seven years later, Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast. The Imperial Palace Biloxi was one of the few buildings to survive the Category 5 major hurricane. Following the storm, it provided rooms and accommodations for multiple disaster relief organizations, including Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA). It was the only building large enough to accommodate the massive relief effort in the hectic and tragic days following the legendary hurricane.

The Imperial Palace was the first casino to re-open after Katrina. The IP Casino Resort and Spa, as it is now known, is still going strong. Winco is proud of its role in helping revitalize Biloxi, and the fact that we were building tough, protective windows long before many others even thought of getting in the business.

This year, we've just introduced our newest hurricane-rated window, the historic Hurricane Steel Replica 3250 window, designed specially for historic projects. There's nothing else like it on the market. If you are attending AIA Florida, come see us at Tabletop 28, July 19-22 in Sawgrass, Florida, or visit us at
