The Garage Takes Front Door Service to a Whole New Level with Car Elevators
Challenge
The Stephens Garage was a bustling Buick and Chevy car dealership in the heart of New Orleans in the 1950s. Now simply “The Garage,” the five-story, cast-in-place, car dealership and parking garage have been meticulously converted into upscale living quarters with private parking outside each resident’s front door! Levels of apartments and condos are served by two fully automated, class-B freight elevators that allow residents to self-park on the floor they live on. Part of this incredible transformation involved returning the second-floor windows back to their original state.
Solution
WINCO’s 3250 series Steel Replica windows were installed side-by-side around The Garage’s entire second floor, restoring the look of the dealership’s original windows. Today they are set with laminated hurricane glass and trimmed in a clear anodized finish. As a throwback to the building’s original use, roll-up garage doors set bedrooms apart from the rest of the living space. The Garage includes a rooftop pool and sun deck, as well as 21,000 square feet of commercial space on the main level.
