Ace Hotel New Orleans Keeps Vintage Vibe Alive
Everything old is new again in the trendy New Orleans Warehouse District. The transformation of the 1928 Art Deco, nine-story Barnett’s Furniture building into an Ace Hotel features vintage-inspired interiors reflective of New Orlean’s unique culture and history. The Ace features 234-rooms with dining, retail, event and meeting spaces
The Challenge
A total window replacement was required to restore the historic building's exterior. The project called for multiple window solutions including hurricane resistance, historic replication, thermal performance and acoustic control from the busy street below the guest rooms. After studying old photographs of the building, Winco was able to replicate the elegance of the original true divided lite windows.
The Solution
Winco Series 3250 steel replica windows were used for the street level and single hung Winco Series 4410 windows with vertical mullions for the upper floors. Because of the building's nearly 100-year-old walls, Winco and DeGeorge Glass Company in New Orleans created a new strapping system to attach to new vertical studs on the interior. This reinforcement ensured that the old walls could handle the heavy hurricane resistant laminated glass windows. The laminate also offers acoustic, solar and wind protection. And that's a great package deal!
