Stylish new look improves thermal performance, reduces exterior noise
Sustainability and improved thermal performance were two key project benefits of a broad initiative in repairing the building envelope at Lyman B. Goff Middle School in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. One of the more notable enhancements were the replacement windows featuring Winco’s 4410S Single Hung and 1450S Hung Replica windows.
The Pawtucket School Department selected the 4410S and 1450S windows for Goff Middle School to maintain the look of a traditional hung window system with the performance of a projected style window. Both were used, sometimes adjacent to each other in the same classroom. All windows and exterior trim have 70% Kynar Burnt Sun paint finish for a clean, unified aesthetic.
Since enhanced thermal performance was a key objective, a high performing thermal insulated glass was used which included an advanced SunGuard SN-68, double-silver low E coating, and Technoform thermal spacers. This glass combination offers high visible light transmission while maintaining minimal outdoor reflectivity. This creates the effect of pure glass and an uninterrupted connection between the outdoor and indoor environments.
Another benefit—the new windows have tremendously reduced outside noise to help create a better learning environment for students.
The new Winco windows have greatly improved the overall thermal performance of the building. The window style helps breathe new life into this once proud structure while cutting energy costs across the board.
