New Receptor System Design Saves Time

We are always looking for ways to improve window installation for glaziers. On a recent window replacement for Sarah Roberts Elementary School in Boston, our new receptor system was put to the test, and we’re happy to say that it passed with flying colors!

The Winco 1450S window series in both fixed and projected styles was selected for the project.  The school was ready to upgrade its older windows for high-performance, energy-efficient windows. Winco had recently worked with the same glazier, Kaplioff’s Glass Inc.,  on another job and received valuable insight about the window receptor system we were developing.

When working on renovation projects in larger cities such as Boston, it is often difficult for installers to find enough space to lay out tools and assemble parts for installation. In addition, field work can involve multiple steps to prepare the opening for the new window. With the Winco newly designed receptor system, much of the preassembly work is done at our facility before it’s shipped to the job site, saving space, labor, and time for onsite work.

“It's unusual for a manufacturer to listen to your needs in field installation,” says Dante Birch,  Project Manager at  Kapiloff’s Glass. "It's practically unbelievable to have them come back with an improved, redesigned product that considers those needs and observations. Winco has done just this.”

“With the new receptor system, we are dramatically improving our productivity in the field. This directly correlates to us being more competitive in our market, be it reducing field errors during field fabrication, reducing time in assembly, or the organization of onsite materials (getting the right part to the right place at the right time).  We perform more work in less time.  Since our infrastructure projects are funded with public dollars, these savings flow through the project to taxpayers as well.”

“There was a time when the major costs of a construction project were the materials; in our present era, labor is a significant portion of our costs. Looking at labor efficiency in our installation results in real and meaningful cost benefits for all parties involved. Our installers are raving about this system,” adds Birch.
