New Veteran’s Clinic Offers the Ultimate Safety Glazing
Most Federal veterans hospitals require blast-rated facades for safety and security, including the windows. For the new two-story, brick North Charleston Veterans Affairs Outpatient Clinic in South Carolina, numerous windows on both levels provide maximum daylighting while reducing solar heat gain to maintain a comfortable environment for patients and staff. For safety measures, the windows can help withstand high winds and flying debris from hurricanes, seismic activity of earthquakes, and human impacts.
Architects selected Winco’s 1450 window series because of its ability to hold heavier security glass in its thicker frame, which is ideal for impact and weather threats. The snap trim wraps around the perimeter to secure the windows to the building in the event of a blast. The simulated divided lights give the look of multiple panes in one frame. For all the heavy-duty performance features the windows provide, they still offer a calming and welcoming aesthetic to the care facility.
