Energy-Saving Windows Make Huge Impact at Sister Thea Bowman School
On the day before classes began in the fall of 2015, vandals hit a small catholic grade school in the heart of East St. Louis, Illinois, one of the most underprivileged communities in the country. More than 40 windows were smashed, leaving the kids with a dreary year of learning in classrooms with boarded-up windows. But, members of the local community and the window and glass industry found a way to change that. In response to the massive vandalism, Winco Window Company and GRP Mechanical Contracting Company decided to join in the community outpouring of support for the students of this special school. Pencils were sharpened, funds were raised and on the eve of this year’s school session beginning, state-of-the-art polycarbonate windows were being installed.
The Solution
Winco reached out to its partners for help. The response was unanimous: everyone wanted to help create a budget minded, yet high performing solution to replace the windows. The team of partners included: Covestro LLC, Mapes Panels, LLC, WACI Blinds, and GRP Mechanical Company, Inc. We came up with a solution that was extremely cost effective for the school, yet would give them a window system that most schools would never even dream of, says Winco’s Kurtis Suellentrop. School is now in session, and the kids are thrilled with their sun filled classrooms.
