An old, abandoned Heaton & Cowing Mill has been transformed into Veterans for Tomorrow, a modern, functional apartment building for homeless and disabled veterans. Sitting alongside the West River in Providence, Rhode Island, Veterans for Tomorrow provides housing and access to supportive services for veterans who are homeless. Converted into 20 one-bedroom apartments, the complex also includes community space, laundry facilities, a classroom for employment training, and an outdoor patio.
The oldest part of the building dates back to 1832, and much of the existing brick was carefully preserved. Winco Series 3250 Historic Steel Replica window system with a black anodized finish and exterior grid replicate the look of the original windows. The Winco windows provided by True Enterprises retain the historic mill's original style, but with today's modern energy efficiency, thermal savings, and high performance coatings.
The $5.1-million rehabilitation was overseen by the nonprofit Arc of Blackstone Valley. For the old mill transformation, Winco provided a solution that ensured comfortable living and historical accuracy.
